[There is much confusion surrounding the name Prostanozol. The culprit seems to be the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which every year updates their list of Prohibited Substances.
For 2009 (and later) it reads: Prostanozol (17β-Hydroxy-5α-androstano[3,2-c]pyrazole), depicted at left, above.
For 2008 (and earlier) it reads: Prostanozol ([3,2-c]pyrazole-5α-etioallocholane-17β-tetrahydropyranol), depicted at left, below.
Given these names describe distinctly different substances WADA’s explanation—“The nomenclature of Prostanozol has been changed to better follow the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) rules”—has a certain… CYA quality. Not very helpful WADA. Definitely not very sporting.]
