Asymptomatic means “without symptoms,” and during this period most people infected with HIV show few or no signs of HIV disease. This stage lasts from one to 15 years, with 10 years being about the average.
During this stage HIV keeps reproducing and killing CD4 cells even in people taking anti-HIV drugs.
